Delphi News December 2013 & Season's Greetings!

Welcome to the final edition of Delphi Financial Management's newsletter for 2013!

I’m pleased to enclose the latest edition of Market Update.

Last month global manufacturing data continued to show signs of improvement, although Europe was a little mixed.

In the US, the focus was overwhelmingly on the Federal Reserve’s timing of its QE3 dial down. However the new Federal Reserve Chairperson elect, Janet Yellen, also expressed concerns over the continuing high levels of unemployment.

On the home front, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has indicated its desire to have a lower Australian dollar, and if necessary will intervene in the currency. The RBA kept rates on hold at its last meeting of the year.

MLC's Senior Invesment Consultant, Brian Parker reviews events in Australian and Overseas markets during November in the latest edition of the Economic Update. Brian notes that the outlook remains uncertain and that MLC is focusing on risk management. In the separate "Year in Review" briefing, he notes that "over the longer term, there remains a real danger that quantitative easing by the world's major central banks could lead to higher inflation."

During the year I was fortunate to attend a Finance Conference and hear from a number of wonderful international speakers. However, the person who made the greatest impression was not the Industry Leaders but a young man by the name of Craig Kielburger.

Craig co-founded Free The Children in 1995 at only 12 years of age. Today, he remains a passionate full-time volunteer for the organisation, now an international charity and renowned educational partner that empowers youth to achieve their fullest potential as agents of change.

In lieu of sending season greeting cards, Delphi has made a donation to Craig's organisation to assist in their great work with the youth of the world. Listening to Craig's inspiring presentation confirmed to me that we in Australia are in most cases very fortunate.

Personally, the arrival this year of grandson James and granddaughter, Helena has for Bernadette and myself being simply fantastic!

So on behalf of us here at Delphi, I hope that you and your family have had something glorious to remember during 2013. Enjoy your Holiday Celebrations, whether Christmas, Hanukkah or simply being with people you love!

Our office will be closing on Tuesday 24th December and will reopen on Monday 6th January 2014.

However if you have an urgent enquiry please contact us (as our emails will be monitored during the break).
